Coby Fleener, TE Stanford Scouting Report

Coby Fleener, TE Stanford [HT- 6’6 WT- 245 4.75 projected 40]

Positives- Coby is a very tall, athletic Tightend, who has room to grow into his frame…He has soft, sure hands, and has been Andrew Luck’s “safety blanket” for the last two years…He shows good body control in the air, he can extend from his body, and also match the ball at its high-point…Coby has been aligned everywhere on the line, playing next to the Tackles, the Slot, out wide, and also in the backfield…He has a clean burst off the line and runs his route tree at a near Elite level…He has near Elite footwork and balance, allowing his to use many moves to get open, and make a play in the open field…Coby posses a better than Above Average run block game, and has the ability to stone and seal the edge…After initial contact, looks downfield to see if/where he can make another block to spring the back.

Negatives- While he has a good, clean burst off the line, he doesn’t posses anything other than Average game speed…He is lacking in terms of agility and while, he does a good job of moving in open space, isn’t a threat to elude safeties (in most cases)…He tends to get overextended in his blocks, and will try to block multiple defenders, while good, he will also no finish his first assignment…He doesn’t have the natural knee bending one would like to see, but this has improved as the season(s) have progressed.
