Stephon Gilmore, CB South Carolina Scouting Report

Stephon Gilmore, CB South Carolina [HT- 6’1 WT-195 4.53 projected 40]

Positives- Stephon has a big(er) than average frame and long arms…He has unmatched versatility and can play off the ball, man to man, and does an above average job of blitzing/attacking the Quarterback and Runningback…He is strong enough to jam most receivers at the line and can mirror quite well…He is quick to read routes and can close in on the target on his initial jump (zone coverage)…Excels in Zone Coverage and knows where the Safeties and other Backs are at in relation to where the Receiver is going and where soft spots will be…He is a sure tackler, who goes for aggressive hits…He can chop down and stop the Back...He also doubles as a Punt Returner.

Negatives- While Stephon does have a large frame, he has a slim build…While he does tackle aggressively, this leads to missed tackles, and stronger backs can bounce off of him…He does lack Elite level speed and his recovery speed isn’t there for when he opens his hips and gets upright…He doesn’t have consistent feet and will get lost on deep routes…May be a tweener, who can play Safety at the next level.
